In response to the growing environmental challenges facing the industrial sector, the EU-funded project ALCHEMHY is taking ambitious steps to revolutionize the production of ammonia and methanol—two critical chemicals traditionally associated with high energy consumption and significant CO₂ emissions.
ALCHEMHY aims to develop fully electrified, zero-emission production routes by replacing fossil-based processes with renewable energy, green hydrogen, and advanced digital technologies. By doing so, the project seeks to make the chemical sector more sustainable, energy-efficient, and resilient, while actively contributing to the EU’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050, in line with the European Green Deal.
The project focuses on three key pillars:
- Sustainable ammonia production
- Low-emission methanol synthesis
- Green hydrogen integration as a clean feedstock and energy carrie
ALCHEMHY leverages cutting-edge tools such as process intensification and digital twin modeling to transform traditional manufacturing pathways. This approach not only reduces emissions, but also promotes scalability, circularity, and resource efficiency.
Collaboration lies at the heart of ALCHEMHY. The project brings together academia, industry, and policymakers to jointly shape a new era for the chemical industry—one that is cleaner, smarter, and future-ready.
As a sister project to TRINEFLEX, ALCHEMHY further strengthens the European innovation ecosystem in industrial decarbonization. Together, our projects are helping build a greener, more sustainable future for key sectors of the EU economy.
